A group project fails in a group chat. Someone says they will take the slides, the due date is a screenshot of the syllabus, and the night before, half the tasks have no owner. The fix is a shared list with a date on each piece of work and room for the whole group.
TalonTodo groups do not cap how many classmates can join. Tasks, comments, and the activity on that group stay with the project. The free plan is the one at app.talontodo.com/register.
What the other free plans allow
Checked 10 October 2026:
| TalonTodo free | Todoist Beginner | Asana Personal | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | $0 | $0 | $0 |
| People | No member cap on a group | 5 people per personal project | 2 users |
| The work itself | Tasks on the group, with due dates and reminders | Tasks inside the project | Unlimited tasks and projects |
| History of what happened | Group activity is kept. Nothing in the app deletes it on a timer. | 7 days of activity history | Activity log included on Personal |
Sources: Todoist usage limits, Asana Personal. TalonTodo's join path adds a member without a count check. Joining is rate-limited so someone cannot hammer the invite code. That limit is not a ceiling on the size of the group.
A class group of six does not fit Asana Personal. It does not fit Todoist Beginner either, once the sixth person needs access to that project.
A list that survives the group chat
- Create the group and share the invite. Everyone who will touch the project should be on the list, including the person who only does the bibliography.
- Break the assignment into dated tasks: outline, draft, figures, rehearsal, final export. Put a name on each one.
- Leave comments on the task when something changes, instead of a new thread.
- Keep your other classes on your own list. The group should not be the only place your solo homework lives. That setup is A Free Assignment Tracker for Students.
